What I Eat
I’ve been taking photos for ages – one of the things I’ve taken photos of is what I’ve been eating – I don’t do it every time I eat because I think I’m a bit obsessive because I eat the same foods over and over again – and I don’t want people to find out – but I guess I just told you.
However, around the turn of the century (I’ve always wanted to write that), I became vegetarian. Since then, my diet has evolved to strict vegetarian (vegan) and then to a mostly raw vegan diet. I’ve been following a mostly raw vegan diet for over three years.
I got the idea from a book I found, Everything I Ate: A Year in the Life of My Mouth by Tucker Shaw. Shaw, a New Yorker, photographed everything he ate in 2004. I thought he had quite a poor diet. I think if I ate like he did, I would not feel too well most of the time or be in general poor health. I think most people on a Standard American Diet are in general poor health.
On the other hand, most of what I eat gives me tons of energy, makes me feel great and I rarely get sick. When I do get sick – usually my doing – I recover quickly. Raw food diets have been starting to come into the mainstream lately. It started with celebrities such as Woody Harrelson, Carol Alt and Bif Naked. The celebrities and their personal chefs have made most think that raw food is complex and time consuming. It can be if one wants that sort of thing. However, it really is a very simple diet and doesn’t take very much time to prepare a meal. Most of my meals take only minutes to prepare, taste great and are very filling.
I think most people are curious as to what I eat and how I prepare my meals. For this reason, I’m documenting – in photos – everything that I am eating in 2009. I will post the images in thumbnails in chronological order below. The images will link to the corresponding image in my flickr account.
Comments, questions and suggestions are encouraged. Bon appetit!

Hey Garry, hope you are enjoying the snow.
Quick question. I just bought a new mixer and want to start making smoothies, mostly green ones. Got any great recipes? I bought a high power mixer, Blendtec at the health show last weekend. I have kale and spinach and other green stuff, but I’m not sure what to put with it.
Anyway email me with recipes!!
Mary
